Lisa Richardson, PhD, currently serves as the Co-Executive Director of the Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies (IWES). She brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles, including National Director of the Southern Access Project for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, as well as consultant, program director, and evaluator for various organizations, including Emory University, the Carter Presidential Center, and New Orleans-based education program Students at the Center.

In academia, Lisa has held positions as a Visiting Professor in the Urban and Regional Planning Department at Florida State University and as an Assistant Professor in Urban Studies and Pan-African Studies at California State University Northridge. She earned her Ph.D. as a Board of Regents Fellow from the University of New Orleans in 2002 and a Master of Science degree from Georgia State University in 1996.

Her research and advocacy interests span community development, social determinants of health, sexual health education, and participatory action research, with a special focus on women of color and youth. After a time away in academia, Lisa returned to New Orleans in 2005, stepping into the role of Interim Executive Director at IWES in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
